Formatting & Emoticons

All Chatbear messageboards automatically convert emoticons (or smilies) into graphical representations. Board owners may add their own text filters to increase the number of these available but the standard set is as follows...

Formatting Codes

These allow you to format your messages in a number of different ways. Such as adding bold and italics or colours and other text effects. All the codes work in the same way, they have a closing and ending tag. Colours use curly brackets { } and everything else uses square ones [ ].

So if you wanted to put something in bold you would wrap it in the bold opening and closing tags, like so...

I want b[this text here]b to be in bold.

Which would result in...

I want this text here to be in bold.

The available tags are as follows...

b[bold text]b
i[italic text]i
u[underline text]u
-[strikethrough text]-
+[bullet point]+
c[code text]c
q[quote text]q

Colours

There are also four colours that can be defined by the community owner, which can be accessed like so...

1{coloured text 1}1
2{coloured text 2}2
3{coloured text 3}3
4{coloured text 4}4

The actual colours that these codes in result in will depend on the board owner.

Images and URL's

There are also codes for adding images (on those boards that allow it) and URL's.

For URL's...

url=http://www.chatbear.com[Chatbear]url

Email addresses and URL's which are just typed out in full into a message will be converted to hyperlinks automatically.

For images...

img[http://www.chatbear.com/images/plainlogo.gif]img

The bit in the middle is simply the URL to the image of your choice.

A brief overview of all these codes and emoticons can usually be found at the bottom of the Post Message page.
