A really good night at the Fox & Pelican last night where I hosted the "Singer Songwriter" night. This gives an opportunity to many of the talented performers around the area. My aim with these nights is to have a high quality of performers and there certainly was last night.
After a few songs from me we started with Matt Howes, a young man from Haslemere, who played some of his own songs as well as an excellent version of Magnolia by JJ Cale and a Damien Rice song. Great talent. One performer had dropped out because of a bad throat but a guy called Max had come in with his guitar at the ready & came and played a couple of his own songs. Then we were treated to the unique guitar skills of Mike Dawes - he has a way of playing his guitar on his lap and amongst his own compositions did a wonderful version of My Heart Goes On from the film Titanic.
All the way from Basingstoke to perform was the excellent young Irish singer/pianist Ashley Heyes who everyone in the audience commented on. A singing teacher by day she writes her own songs and a sound reminiscent of Kate Bush and Joni Mitchell to me. Her new single No One Knows is out now and can be heard at www.myspace.com/ashleyheyes Finally, we heard from the ever popular Charlie Beckerson who tried out some of his new compositions and very good they were too. Charlie will be doing a full set of cover songs at the F & P on Saturday 16th February.

I have another "Singer Songwriter" night next Sunday which proves to be another great night with another variety of performers and a feature set from Jonathan Thompson who has recently recorded his debut album at Opus Studios in Grayshott.

And on Sunday 24th February its a jazz night with the "Campbell & Co Jazz Quartet" playing bepop. Well known around the Farnham area - great sounding jazz.

Slowly getting more support for this FREE live music brought to the village of Grayshott. Thanks for your support. Check in the pub for future music nights or contact me.
