During the weekend A3 closure I believe more could have been done to re-iterate the 'no through road' status of Crossways Road. I lost count of the number of vehicles that must have come down the A3 (from the Hindhead lights) and were re-directed down the Headley Road and then automatically turned left into Crossways Road (obviously hoping to skip around the roadworks) only to be confronted with a roadblock at the end of Crossways Road (with its junction to the A3).
Whislt I realise that there was a large sign at the entrance to Crossways Road stating that the A3 was closed and that the road was for residents only, it was sited high up on the left and not as easy to see whilst manouvering around the sharp left bend. I think that an actual road-block signage would have been much better.
On Sunday afternoon there was an enormous artic. lorry that found its way down to the end - it didn't come back so I believe that they must have had to let it through. The driver + passenger could not speak English and he was asking if he could go onto the A3 to turn around (as he had no chance doing this on Crossways Road itself).
Also, the many cars, vans etc. that did go down to the end only to be turned around then came back well over the speed limit of 30mph. I have tried to get the signage improved for drivers coming into Crossways Road from the A3 but have been told that it is sufficient. However, at the moment the 30mph sign is (I believe) way too high, is hidden behind a low branch and is now almost invisible. I believe a much better site is just under the 'Grayshott' sign which is a little further up the road but I have been told that there are guidlines they follow and this doesn't fit in with them. (Liphook has something similar which looks good and neat too).
Thanks
