why unrig if you have multiple shaders assigned???
you cant have more than one shader for each face...if it gives the error for all faces you probably have them assigned to the whole mesh |

you have to use relationship editor to add the shape nodes to the layers because maya 8 only adds the group node....its explained in this thread
the add hl2 shader attribute can be used to add the extra attributes the exporter reads to any existing phongE shader....just select the shader and hit that button |

"Oh and in the short thing you gave me you never told me to make the physics model for the cube fyi."
thats why i told you to uncheck export physics in the next reply "Oh and any idea why my physics model comes out like this?" you made all edges soft?? you applied the correct shapes to physics layer?? they are textured?? check what studiomdl output says "Oh I got it to compile as it is now obvious... For some reason I think it was the way the layers that I used didn't have a capital P or R. Or it could of been the way I added the object to the layer." not sure if i made layer parsing case sensitive but the way you have to apply the shapes is posted here somewhere because thats the way you have to do it since maya 8 and others had that problem before |

hmm it stops at exporting vmt....are you sure your tga has a power of 2 resolution and the shader is applied to the cube?? (if you change textures you might have to restart maya)....also try to uncheck export physics
and check show line numbers in the script editor options |

well...the compile qc is just a leftover from valves original export scripts and you dont need it so forget that env var it needs
all you need to export is in the shelf that comes with the exporter... that it doesnt work has probably something to do with your setup and not with maya 8.5.... i still think you should learn maya basics before....anyway here is how you should get your export pipeline to work 1. make a simple cube 2. click on "new" button in hl2 export shelf....it will create a phongE1 shader 3. go to attributes of phongE1 and add a file node to the color channel 4. select the cube, open hypershade and rightclick on phongE1 then select apply to selected object 5. click on "layer" in the exporter shelf...dont change anything just click create 6. open connection editor, select the shape node of your cube on the left side (expand the group node with the +) and on the right side select ref layer 7. save the scene these are the steps to get the simplest model ready to export 8. click on export in the shelf leave all options default just click on paths tab and hit the default button and then hit full compile...ofcourse make sure you have steam running now the exporter should create a working model....it shows informations and error messages in the maya output window and the script editor window (both have different information) all this only works if you followed the setup instructions for the exporter from the links posted in this thread (correct paths and so on) if you dont know maya i cant help you much because there are a ton of things you could do wrong |
